August 2019:NFA Meeting

8/7/19 Doors open at 5pm speaker starts at 6pm.

Our own NFA Board Member Sharonda Harris-Marshall- Associate Producer will talk about this fascinating documentary in progress about a Nebraska Music icon “Remember The Drumstick.”

SYNOPISIS In 1978, Tim Lohmeier had the brilliant idea to turn his family’s fried chicken restaurant into a rock n’ roll club. Bands such as REM, Joan Jett, Red Hot Chili Peppers, X, and 10,000 Maniacs frequented the club. The club/restaurant was much like Tim himself: full of a zest of life born out of Midwestern spunk and enthusiasm. The Drumstick was a staple in the Lincoln, Nebraska community and was an outlet for young rock fans looking for belonging. It was a family restaurant that was going through an adolescence, much like the Baby Boomers who fondly remember the cool beer and hot tunes. But in 1987, the music stopped. Tim was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS transmitted by a blood transfusion and the restaurant/music venue closed forever. The end of an era.

November NFA Meeting

Please don’t miss out on a presentation by Art Instructor at the 402 Arts Collective and very talented Nicole Callahan!

An Austin native, Nicole Foster Callahan earned her BFA in Theatre at Texas State. Afterward she headed for Hollywood where for nearly a decade Nicole studied acting at some of the most accredited studios in the industry while working steadily in TV and commercials. Some of her most noteworthy credits include Friday Night Lights, How I Met Your Mother and Days of Our Lives.

Nicole’s talent for coaching became so trusted by her friends and colleagues that she decided to open her own studio in LA, called Acting UP Network, which quickly became a go-to venue for agents and managers to send their brightest young talent. It was there that she cultivated her own brand of educating artists, one that combines not only acting as a discipline but also industry knowledge, marketing and creating networking opportunities.

In 2016 the opportunity of a lifetime pulled Nicole and her family from the West Coast to the Heartland. While she traded palm trees for a puffer coat, Nicole doesn’t intend on trading a promising career as a teacher and mentor. What she learned from her time in LA is she’s happiest when helping others reach their goals and is excited about what she can bring to enrich the vast arts community in Omaha!
