8/7/19 Doors open at 5pm speaker starts at 6pm.

Our own NFA Board Member Sharonda Harris-Marshall- Associate Producer will talk about this fascinating documentary in progress about a Nebraska Music icon “Remember The Drumstick.”

SYNOPISIS In 1978, Tim Lohmeier had the brilliant idea to turn his family’s fried chicken restaurant into a rock n’ roll club. Bands such as REM, Joan Jett, Red Hot Chili Peppers, X, and 10,000 Maniacs frequented the club. The club/restaurant was much like Tim himself: full of a zest of life born out of Midwestern spunk and enthusiasm. The Drumstick was a staple in the Lincoln, Nebraska community and was an outlet for young rock fans looking for belonging. It was a family restaurant that was going through an adolescence, much like the Baby Boomers who fondly remember the cool beer and hot tunes. But in 1987, the music stopped. Tim was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS transmitted by a blood transfusion and the restaurant/music venue closed forever. The end of an era.
