June Monthly Networking Event

The Nebraska Film Association invited you to attend June’s monthly networking meeting on Wednesday, June 3.

This month’s featured speak is author Tom Frye.  Read his bio below:

Tom Frye has worked for the past 40 years as an advocate for troubled youth. As as a juvenile care specialist at a detention facility, he gained the experience needed to serve as a mediator for his own truancy program, providing wake-up calls and escorts to schools for a wide mix of alternative students. In working with these delinquent youth, Tom discovered a way to communicate and connect with them: Writing books.

As a Nebraska Storyteller, he once produced and directed a substance abuse program which had an impact on 15,000 at-risk kids. He believes, though, that his greatest accomplishment can be summed up in the words of one troubled boy who wrote to him while confined in an institution: “Discovered your book today. It was like reading a letter you wrote directly to me. Thanks for giving me hope.”

Currently, Tom is on a quest to “re-translate” several of his “edutainment” books and present them on the movie screen. He has jokingly told his readers for years, “If you have an autographed copy of one of my books, when the movie is shown at the Joyo Theater in Havelock, you get in for free!”

Tom would be the first to admit, honoring those words would be a nice problem to have.
