Guest speaker for March is Patty Dillon!
(She is a documentary filmmaker. She released the film “There Will Be No Stay” that was shown on CNN a few months ago.)
More about Patty:
Born in San Diego, California Patty Dillon knew early on that she wanted to work in Film and television. She studied theatre performance at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. After consuming only classes that interested her, she dropped out after her junior year and moved to Colorado. It was in Colorado Patty was able to indulge in her passion for the outdoors. She taught adult snowboarding, worked on a dude ranch taking tourists horseback riding, and after a summer of whitewater rafting, she decided to combine her love of acting with her passion for extreme sports and pursued a career in Stunts. Patty went to an international stunt school in Seattle. It was there she learned the fundamentals of stunts for film and television.
Patty returned to Breckenridge for one last outdoor adventure and lived in a tent for five months with her dog. She saved enough money to move to Wilmington, NC where she trained with World Taurus Stunt Award nominee, John Copeman. She worked on shows such as Dawson’s Creek, One Tree Hill, HBO’s Eastbound and Down as well as a handful of feature films.
Patty ultimately decided that she wanted to tell the story more than she wanted to perform and made the move behind the camera. In 2008 she wrote a 13 part documentary series called Dichotomy of Death which would explore and expose various facets of Capital Punishment. The first one in development was titled “To Kill The Killer” which would investigate execution from the executioner’s perspective.
She soon put the series on the shelf and pursued “To Kill the Killer” as a feature length documentary, now titled “There Will Be No Stay.” TWBNS from conception to completion took seven years, has been nominated for five awards, and has screened in a dozen theaters. It was sold to FilmBuff in 2015.
Patty is currently in development on three separate projects including an autobiography, a documentary, and a dark comedy intended for episodic television.
