Omaha KPOA studio tour
The KPAO studio cost $310,000 to build and $100,000 to equip. The money came from the city’s cable franchise agreements with Cox Communications and CenturyLink. The companies are to pay a combined $200,000 a year for the next seven years to support the operating costs.
The City Council decided to build and operate the studio after Cox said it would no longer support the studio at its offices at 114th Street and West Dodge Road.
The new studio offers elements previously unavailable to public access TV producers in Omaha, a high-quality facility with top-of-the-line equipment.
Producers can use the facility for free so long as the content is shown on the cable public access channel. Currently, about 15 producers create local programs for the station.
